What the Site Stores
No account and no analytics cookie at this time. The site only keeps, in your browser (local storage), the layers you showed or hid, so you find them on your next visit. These settings are never sent to us, and you can erase them by clearing the site's data in your browser.
Browser Extension
The Live Atlas extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox collects no personal data and has no account. Your settings (language, alert thresholds, place chosen for nearby alerts) stay in your browser's storage and are never sent to us. To stay up to date, the extension reads public files from liveatlas.earth and the USGS earthquake feed. It does not read the pages you visit. The right-click menu only uses the text you selected, to look up the matching place in a downloaded list, without sending it anywhere.
Widgets
Widgets embedded on other sites set no cookies. They read the same public data as the map (liveatlas.earth and USGS).
Contact Form
The name, email address and message you send through the form reach us by email, only so we can reply. They are not stored on the site or passed on to anyone, and are deleted once the conversation is over. To limit spam, the server keeps an anonymised fingerprint of your IP address for one hour.
Services Called by the Map
To show up-to-date data, your browser contacts some public services directly, which therefore receive your IP address as with any web page. These services are listed below.
- USGS and EMSC, for live earthquakes
- NASA GIBS, for satellite imagery (if the layer is on)
- Amazon Web Services (Terrarium), for elevations when zoomed in
- Wikimedia Commons, for flags and photos
Our host, o2switch (France), keeps technical server logs (IP address, requested page, date) for security purposes, for a limited time.
Advertising
If advertising is added, a banner will ask for your consent before any advertising cookie, and this page will be updated with the list of partners.
Your Rights
Under the GDPR, you can request access to, correction or deletion of your data through the contact form. You may also contact the French data protection authority, the CNIL (www.cnil.fr).
